400 crore rupees have been found from the accounts of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Ex-Peon.
After this revelation, the Central Bank of Bangladesh has ordered to seize the bank accounts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's former personal assistant Jahangir Alam, his wife and several institutions related to the Prime Minister.
In a press conference on Sunday afternoon, the Prime Minister said, "He used to work in my house, he was a scoundrel and now he has become the owner of Tk 400 crore."
After this press conference, the Financial Intelligence Unit of Bangladesh Bank has ordered to freeze the bank accounts of Jahangir Alam and his wife under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
However, Jahangir Alam told in the interview that he did not think the Prime Minister was referring to him.
He claims that he did not commit corruption, "My whole family will not have that much money." And whatever I have, I have mentioned it in the tax file.
However, Anti-Corruption Commission's lawyer Khursheed Alam Khan says that it is unusual for a peon or personal assistant to have Tk 400 crore, so the commission should investigate it.
Iftikhar-ul-Zaman, executive director of anti-corruption organization TIB, says that the prime minister has shown courage by openly talking about this issue and now the concerned people will have to see that the money or accumulated wealth of this person is legitimate. Income-matched or not.
