Russia agrees to extend grain export deal with Ukraine

Russia agrees to a 60-day extension of grain export deal with Ukraine

Russia says it will not oppose expanding the so-called Black Sea Green Initiative, which aims to ease the global food crisis.

In Geneva, Russia agreed to extend the agreement for half of the original 120-day period.

After the meeting with the United Nations delegation, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said that we have no objection to extending the term of the Black Sea Initiative after its expiry.

In his statement, he added that the talks have once again confirmed that efforts are being made to speed up imports of Ukrainian goods to bring profits to Kyiv, but restrictions are still imposed on Russian agricultural imports.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said that Washington, Brussels, and London are not implementing exemptions from restrictions on the import of fertilizers and food products to Russia.

He said that this time the extension will be only for 60 days and the future course of action will depend on the practical normalization of our agricultural imports rather than on words.

Ukraine, on the other hand, warned that it was "contradictory" to the original agreement, but Ukraine did not reject the proposal.

It should be noted that the agreement between the United Nations and Turkey to continue grain exports from Ukraine in July last year will expire on March 18 this year.
